U.S Coffee Champs in Orange County, CA

Events Posted on March 5, 2020

At the end of February, Novus took to the sunny beaches of southern California to participate in the U.S. Coffee Champs events in Orange County.  Sales team member, Emily Smith, participated in the roasting competition and cheered on her fellow roasters!
The compulsory coffee was a Kenya coffee from Nyeri.  Emily roasted the coffee on a 1.5 kilo Proaster at the Buckman Coffee Factory in Portland, Oregon.  The competition included blind cuppings of the submitted roast, public service of the coffee, and a presentation of the roast approach in front of a panel of judges.

Some great highlights from the event included the final national competition for Barista and Brewer’s Cup, as well as regional qualifiers for Cup Taster’s and Coffee In Good Spirits.
Coffee In Good Spirits also featured a fun happy hour where the audience got to try the amazing coffee-focused cocktails (coffee pina colada anyone?).

Saturday night also featured an amazing Glitter Cat carnival hosted by Moongoat Coffee at their new Costa Mesa location.  Congratulations to all the winners and all of the competitors!  Competitions take an amazing amount of hard work, determination, and sacrifice.  All the competitors showed up with amazing coffees and unique approaches to roasting.  Novus is always proud to support the roasting community.
