#SheisCoffee:Michelle Dunaway

News Posted on March 10, 2021

Michelle grew up in the coffee industry, starting her coffee career working during summer at a coffee mill in her native Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras. Coming from a family with strong ties to coffee, she learned the passion for coffee from her father. Being immerse in the coffee world from an early age allowed Michelle to understand the industry, especially the work that coffee producers do at origins. “Growing coffee is a traditional family affair. All the farmers I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with during our origin trips started in coffee when they were young seeing their father work on the land, their love for growing coffee started at a young age.”

Michelle has a soft spot for Honduras coffee, being from this country herself. Her passion for coffee and coffee growing regions has led her to be part of the Mercon Specialty team and contribute to the development of coffee farmers through innovative process. “ Mercon Specialty is a dynamic and innovative company, we are constantly adapting to serve our clients.  Because we are so close to origin, we can accommodate special requests and produce coffee and processes that are unique.  This year we are producing Anaerobic Fermentation and Carbonic Maceration coffees in Honduras for the first time.  We are open to try new things, innovate and all of this is because we are committed to world class customer service.” For Michelle, building a better world means working together to improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers that have a positive impact in their communities. “Building a better coffee world means to me recognizing that without the coffee producers there would be no coffee world, it means working directly with our farmers always looking for ways in we can make a positive impact to their livelihoods, it means learning from each other and it specially it means to me building long lasting win-win relationships.”

Michelle has lived and breathed coffee her entire life and it is because of that passion for her favorite beverage that she can work today to create relationships that will build a better coffee world.
