Coffee has been in Rafael Santana’s livelihood for generations, starting with his grandfather, to his father who's tended the farm for 40 years, and then to Rafael for the last 10. Throughout all the difficulties he’s faced, Rafael has remained passionate about his coffee, it is this drive for quality that motivates him to press on and strive to produce specialty coffee lots.
Rafael Santana realized about three years ago that he had an excellent opportunity to increase value and stand out in the market by separating his lots due to his farm sitting at 1,250 meters above sea level. Since then, he’s invested in micro lots to help expand his production of specialty coffee, while ensuring each stage of the process is done properly and at the right time. This includes picking the ripest beans and bringing them to the patios daily without harming them during post-harvest. Currently, the Engenho Farm holds 80 thousand coffee trees.
