The story behind the coffee
Santa Palencia is a group of small coffee growers located in the central zone of Guatemala, grouping producers from 3 different departments due to its geographical location, which are made up of El Progreso, Jalapa and Guatemala.
Currently there are 156 small producers in the Palencia group under the direction of Gregorio Perez Jimenez. Mr Jimenez has more than 50 years experience working in coffee in this region, and has been working with our sibling company, Mercon since they opened in Guatemala. All together, the 156 farms have planted pacas, sarchimore and catuai on 400 hectares of land, with an additional 78 set aside for bioreserve.
Santa Palencia is a member of LIFT. Through the LIFT programs they have found a considerable increase in production and quality. They are also RFA and UTZ certified, increasing the overall sustainability of the farm.
